From her nuanced work on equality rights to her ground-breaking writing on reference opinions, Professor Carissima Mathen has consistently provided crucial insights into the Constitution of Canada and the rule of law. Her contributions to law and letters are now being celebrated by the Ontario government.

New technologies that have the ability to record brain activity are bringing with them some serious implications for the world of law. Imagine, for example, being able to tell if a driver in a car accident had been paying attention or not by checking recordings of their brain data.

University of Ottawa law students Julia Kafato, Ana Nizharadze, and Jessica Rollins have won the prestigious Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot. During seven rounds of competition amidst the historic buildings of the University of Oxford, the team argued all sides of mock litigation involving copyright and pastiche in the context of movies.

91��Ʒ���ϳԹ� took home Best Team and Top Oral Advocate at the Tort Law Moot Competition, held virtually on March 3-4, 2023.

With the world celebrating International Women’s Day early in March, the United Nations convened its annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment to address the specific need to strengthen women and girls’ inclusion in innovation and technology.

Congratulations to two Common Law students who took first place at the Canadian National Negotiation Competition (the “CNNC”) on February 24-25, 2023, at McGill University, Faculty of Law.

Led by captain Daniella Febbraro, the 91��Ʒ���ϳԹ� Common Law team featured Kaitlyn Margison and Alessandra Puopolo on the Appellant’s side, and Hannah Goold and Jordan Geist arguing the Respondent’s side. The team was coached by Professor Jeremy de Beer, Professor David Fewer, and Dr. Christian Clavette. 

Former Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Chantal Bernier, has stepped into the inaugural position of Privacy Practitioner-in-Residence for the Common Law Section.

Professor Kyle Kirkup has been invited to join the prestigious ranks of the Global Young Academy (GYA), a community of outstanding early career scientists and scholars from around the world. The GYA aims to foster international, interdisciplinary and intergenerational dialogue across a wide range of fields.
