Mandatory training

The following is part of the required by law. All employees must complete this training during the first month of hire.

Employers have responsibilities regarding workplace violence. They must have workplace violence policies and programs and must provide information and instruction to workers on them.

Workers are also responsible for preventing workplace violence. They must report potential workplace violence. They also have the right to refuse to work if they are in danger of workplace violence.

Ontario鈥檚 Occupational Health and Safety Act requires employers to provide employees with training on prevention of harassment and discrimination in the workplace.

Employment Equity Training Program

Members of the Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa (APUO) who take part in recruitment processes shall participate in the program of training on Employment Equity, as stipulated in section 17 of their collective agreement.

External online training opportunities

A 30-minute interactive online course that offers a foundation for learning about race, racial discrimination and human rights protection under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The course offers a historical overview of racism and racial discrimination, explains what 鈥渞ace,鈥 鈥渞acism鈥 and 鈥渞acial discrimination鈥 mean and provides approaches to preventing and addressing racial discrimination.

This interactive module is designed to promote an understanding of unconscious bias and how it can affect the peer review process. It will also provide strategies for mitigating bias during the review process.
