In the past few years, journalism has undergone a major transformation. Journalism is now mediated by digital technologies, leading to new practices, business models, and journalistic norms. Specific skills for digital journalism include data journalism, solutions journalism, and strategic digital communications. Today鈥檚 journalists need to fill diverse roles, requiring not only an agile understanding of emerging social trends but also specialized expertise.

Students enrolled in this program will gain insight into journalism-related challenges in the digital age prior to entering the fast-changing media industry. The Department of Communication offers an Honours Bachelor in Digital Journalism jointly with:

  • Algonquin College (in English);
  • La Cit茅 (in French);
  • and CEGEP de Jonqui猫re (in French).

Combining both theory and practice, this program will give you a key competitive advantage.

There are four ways to fulfill the degree requirements.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive both a university degree and a college diploma.

Honours BA in Digital Journalism (start at 91精品黑料吃瓜)

Register for the Honours bachelor's degree at the University and, after completing 60 units (four terms), transfer to Algonquin College (English program) or to La Cit茅 college (French program) to complete the diploma program in journalism. Because of space limitations at Algonquin and La Cit茅, the University can only accept 25 students in each of these streams. In addition, upon completion of 60 units at the University of Ottawa, you must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 6.0/10 (70%) to be admitted to Algonquin College or La Cit茅.

Honours BA in Digital Journalism (start at Algonquin College)

Start by completing two years and obtain the Diploma in Journalism at Algonquin College (in English) (a minimum average of 3.0 is required) and then transfer to Honours Bachelor in Digital Journalism at the University of Ottawa to do four more terms (60 units). Honours BA in Digital Journalism (start at C茅gep de Jonqui猫re)

Start by completing the three-year program in Journalism (MTA-Journalism) at the C茅gep de Jonqui猫re (in French) (a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 70% is required) and then apply for admission to the Digital Journalism program at the University of Ottawa to do four more terms (60 units). The University has no registration limits in this stream.

Admission procedure

Application deadline: June 1st

Students registered in the Honours Bachelor in Digital Journalism  at the University of Ottawa who have a CGPA of 6.0 may apply for a transfer to the Journalism program at Algonquin College using the following procedure:

  1. Students must fill out the Algonquin College Application Form for Students from the University of Ottawa available at the Undergraduate Office of the Faculty of Arts, at 60 University, Simard Hall, Room 128. Students must then submit the form to the Undergraduate Office of the Faculty of Arts, at the latest on January 10th or next business day.
  2. There are no fees required for the request to transfer to the  program at Algonquin College when the above procedure (point 1) is followed.
  3. Algonquin College will provide students with a response to their request, at the latest June 1st  or next working day.  
  4. The University of Ottawa will provide final transcripts to Algonquin College.

NOTE: The Algonquin College Application Form for Students from the University of Ottawa may be used only for those seeking transfer to the Diploma in Journalism or the Diploma in Public Relations programs offered at Algonquin College.
