Lucie Ouimet
Lucie Ouimet
Adjunct professor

Professor Lucie Ouimet earned her PhD in education (health option) from the Universit茅 Paris 8. She is interested in medical and social representations of Alzheimer's disease and the epistemological issues underlying these essentially defective representations. She is currently working on a repository of video vignettes of testimonials from people diagnosed with Alzheimer's, who live at home with their caregivers. She is compiling these life stories, which reveal the singularity of people's experiences, their variability, and the complexity of the disease. As part of the Labo Stress: Cognition and Learning project, Ouimet explores the impact of stress on the cognition of the elderly. She is interested in the phenomena of cognitive compensation and cerebral plasticity present in the early stages identified in the nomenclature of Alzheimer's disease, and the capacity of neurons to arborise under the effect of learning. She is working on the development and experiment of a pedagogical clinical intervention for Alzheimer's sufferers in the early stages of the disease, in both francophone and francophone minority contexts.
