The JD Class of 1969 generously established this fund to provide financial support to a student entering his or her first year of the JD Program at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, whose education would otherwise be compromised.

The Class of ’69 has remained close over the years. Following graduation, members have continued to meet every 5 years to share kindness, advice and support as their professional careers develop.

This fund was established thanks to the leadership of Bruce Carr-Harris of Borden Ladner Gervais, and those of Jim Ryan’s family, classmates and friends who contributed towards this scholarship.

Mr. Carr-Harris and his classmates created this fund to honour the memory of Jim Ryan, Class of 1975. Jim was an active participant in the university community. A member of the Gee-Gees football team as well as Treasurer of the Common Law Student Society, Jim is fondly remembered by his classmates for his wit and humour during the sometimes anxious days of their first year at law school. Jim never forgot that the serious business of being a law student did not mean that one must always be serious. It seemed that wherever Jim was to be found in the law school there was always laughter.

The initiative was launched as the Class of ’75 was planning their 35th graduating anniversary. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to a deserving first year student who has contributed most to the enjoyment of his or her classmates during their first year of law school.

The Common Law Section’s Class of 1978 established this scholarship to provide financial support to a student entering his or her first year of the JD Program at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, whose education would otherwise be compromised.

Like many classes, support still comes in thanks to monthly contributions. The commitment of this close-knit group of alumni to their on-going class project is truly admirable.

Alumni from the Class of 1979 established this scholarship to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their graduation from law school. These graduates feel proud to be associated with a school that is a progressive leader in its field and wish to thank the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section for the excellent legal education that they have received.

The success and commitment of this class is demonstrated by the great participation rate of the graduates and also by their continued generosity over the years.

The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to students at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section who demonstrate need. The class has participated actively, contributing over $45,000 to the establishment of this scholarship fund.

The cost of a legal education has become prohibitive for many potential students. This bursary serves to encourage a potential student to pursue his or her legal education despite the high cost.  This bursary serves as recognition on the part of the Class of 2003 that many of them would have been unable to attend law school had the cost been as high when they began.

By endowing a fund in time for their 10th anniversary in 2013, the remarkable efforts of the Class of 2003 is a shining example of generosity and commitment to higher education. The bursary serves as a challenge for future graduating classes to demonstrate their commitment toward making law school accessible for people from diverse backgrounds, with unique skills and experiences.

There are many potential students who, given the opportunity, would be very valuable contributors to the legal community, and consequently to the community at large.  This bursary is meant to encourage that type of person to come to the University of Ottawa in order to start his or her legal career

The Class of 2008 has begun working together to create a gift that will be completed in time to honour their 10 year anniversary in 2018. Launching their initiative during their 5 year reunion, members are now challenging themselves to accomplish bigger and brighter things for their 10 year reunion.

These generous individuals have established an endowed fund for the Legal Writing Academy, an initiative that aims to equip 91��Ʒ���ϳԹ� students with strong writing skills by providing practical writing instruction, increased writing opportunities, personalized feedback and mentoring in every year of the law school’s curriculum. 

The purpose of this fund is to help establish The Legal Writing Academy’s dedication to making legal writing a centerpiece of the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section’s curriculum.

This bursary was generously established by the Common Law Section Class of 1971 on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Life-long comrades, the members now have the means to “give back” to the University to support promotion of education and careers while providing a lasting legacy and a helping hand to their future colleagues.
