Standing tall, sweetgrass grows in delicate strands. When gathered, the stems’ strength has provided the Indigenous community with sacred medicine for thousands of years. Every movement during harvest is made with respectful intention and desire to preserve the medicine.

For the first time ever, the prestigious Public Law Conference is being hosted in North America, namely from July 2 to July 5, 2024, at the University of Ottawa, an academic hub renowned for the study of public law.

Across the globe, climate change and the shift towards decarbonization are having an intense impact on Indigenous Peoples and vulnerable local communities. Frequently it is women and individuals with physical disabilities who bear the brunt of these effects. Indigenous leaders have coined this pattern as “green colonialism”.

Congratulations to two Common Law Section alums who were chosen as the 2024 winners of the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA) awards:

Dr. Herbert Wells was officially sworn into office by President Sandra Mason in a brief ceremony held at State House in April in the presence of his family and Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham. 

The 40 under 40 annually recognizes individuals who reflect the economic diversity and entrepreneurial spirit of the local business community. 

The University of Ottawa's annual Alumni Awards of Excellence gala, held on June 3, 2024, was an inspiring showcase of many remarkable 91��Ʒ���ϳԹ� graduates, including a winner from the Common Law Section, Ritesh Kotak.

In recognition her exceptional thought leadership in Canadian information law and policy, Dr. Teresa Scassa has been bestowed the inaugural PICCASO Canada Award for Privacy Leader in Academia / Thought Leader.

Àbimì was created and given life with much thought and love. She symbolizes a sense of community and togetherness. This year Àbimì celebrates her fifth year, and she continues to hold deep significance for the Indigenous Law Learners in the Common Law Section.

Every Convocation gives us a look at the range of lived experiences, the amount of work accomplished and the determination necessary to pursue university studies.
