In 1992, the Bank of Montreal established a Women's Studies Scholars Program at the University of Ottawa to encourage research that would have direct positive impacts for women. Since that time, the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies has conducted an annual competition offering the opportunity to a feminist researcher having completed her or his Ph.D. to pursue his or her studies in an interdisciplinary, multicultural and bilingual environment, while sharing the research results with the university community.

Dr. Gonzalo Iturregui-Gallardo

Dr. Gonzalo Iturregui-Gallardo is an assistant professor in the Department of Translation, Interpreting and East Asian Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) where he teaches English language and translation courses, and collaborates in the masters in Audiovisual Translation, and Translation and Interculturality. In his research, he applies gender, queer and feminist theory to the fields of translation and accessibility.

He is a member of the International Group of Studies in Communication and Culture of the Institute of Communication (UAB) and participates the Research in Intercultural Studies and Translation group (REICIT). He combines his academic activities with his professional work as subtitler and audio describer, mainly for the scenic arts.

During his stay at the University of Ottawa, he has been involved in both the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies and the School of Translation and Interpretation. He has been working on the analysis of audio descriptions from a gender-conscious perspective and on the rewriting of the intersex body in the adaptations of Herculine Barbin.

He was the main speaker in one of the Cafés Féministes organised by the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies, and in the Audiovisual Translation Event held at the School of Translation and Interpretation. He has given lectures in different courses in the Institute and in the School of Translation and Interpretation.
