Professor Mohamed Chelli holds a PhD in Business Administration (accounting) from the Université Laval (Québec, Canada) and the Université Paris-Dauphine (Paris, France) as part of a joint degree program. Mohamed received a number of honours and awards such as the Minister of Trade and Handicraft’s honour for Major accounting student in Tunisia (Sfax, 2007), the Finance and Sustainable Development Chair’s best MSc thesis (competition between Paris-Dauphine University and Polytechnique Paris, 2009), and the Dean’s doctoral excellence award (Faculty of Business Administration, Laval University, 2012).

Professor Chelli has presented his research at several conferences such as: APIRA (Auckland, 2019), CAAA (Ottawa, 2019), CSEAR (Toulouse 2017, Toronto 2018), AAC (Québec 2012, Montréal 2018), and AFC (Montréal 2013 et Toulouse 2015).

Professor Chelli has published his research in such referred journals as the Journal of Business Ethics (JBE), the Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal (AAAJ), Business Strategy and the Environment (BSE) and Comptabilité-Contrôle-Audit (CCA).

Mohamed’s research relates primarily, but not exclusively, to environmental disclosure, water disclosure and performance, human rights discourse, corporate socio-environmental performance indicators and sustainability ratings / rankings / certifications. Professor Chelli primarily deploys in his research the following unrestricted list of methods: case studies, interviews, longitudinal content analysis, ethnography, discourse analysis, documentary analysis, and critical discourse analysis.

Mohamed is looking for students who are very motivated to deeply investigate the corporate socio-environmental practices (e.g, strategies, policies, actions, reporting, ratings, certifications) and their related impacts, challen

• Why do polluting firms that face common external pressures adopt different organizational responses and management practices?
• What are the difficulties faced by the firms in implementing their socio-environmental policies and strategies?
• How can firms react/resist to the disciplinary effects exerted by sustainability rating organizations?
• How can internal differences/tensions (e.g., cultural, background, political orientation, environmental perception, religion) in the different departments of the firms affect their socio-environmental performance?
• Why is being environmentally-friendly costly for the firms?
• How do investment managers and financial analysts interpret/use corporate socio-environmental data?
• What are the politics associated to the emergence, development and institutionalization of environmental markets (e.g., socially responsible investment market, carbon market)?
