Mr. Lucien is a professor at the Universit茅 d'脡tat d'Ha茂ti and the Universit茅 Quisqueya. He holds a Habilitation 脿 Diriger de la Recherche in Geography from the University of Paris8 and also completed a thesis in Urban History at the University of Toulouse, Le Mirail, and a post-doctorate in Urban Studies at the University of Quebec in Montreal. He is currently director of the Laboratoire dynamique des mondes am茅ricains (LADMA, 脡cole normale sup茅rieure de Port-au-Prince), director of the Masters in Geography at the 脡cole Normale Sup茅rieure/Paris, and co-director of the History Department (ISERSS/Universit茅 d'脡tat d'Ha茂ti).
He is the author of several books on territorial reorganizations and urban policies, including Espaces p茅riph茅riques et 茅conomie d'archipel, la trajectoire contemporaine de la commune de Verrettes, 脡ditions de l'Universit茅 d'脡tat d'Ha茂ti, 2009, Une modernisation manqu茅e, Port-au-Prince 1915-1956, volume 1: Modernisation et centralisation, 脡ditions de l'Universit茅 d'脡tat d'Ha茂ti, 2013, for which he received a prize from the Haitian Studies Association (HSA) in 2013, and Une modernisation manqu茅e, Port-au-Prince 1915-1956, volume 2: Centralization et dysfonctionnements, 脡ditions de l'Universit茅 d'脡tat d'Ha茂ti, 2014, and in 2015 published Little Ha茂ti, Si loin de Dieu et si pr猫s du centre-ville de Miami (Prix Barbancourt). In 2018, he published Le Nord-est d'Ha茂ti, La perle d'un monde fini : entre illusion et r茅alit茅s (Open for Business) and in 2023, Le lieu 脿 l'茅preuve de la complexit茅 appropriations et usages (Joseph Antenor Firmin).
His career also includes:
- Abroad: Visiting Professor at Carleton University in Canada (2023-2024); Visiting Professor at Paris8 in France (2018); Visiting Researcher at the University of Poitiers in France (2010).
- Participation in and management of international research projects: Collaboration with Carleton University on a research project on megaprojects in Haiti and peasant resistance; Program de Recherche dans le Champ de l'Urbain (PRCU) with Universit茅 du Qu茅bec 脿 Montr茅al (UQAM), in charge of the delocalized Master's program Am茅nagement et d茅veloppement des quartiers pr茅caires at Universit茅 Quisqueya de Port-Prince/UQAM 2008-2009; in charge of the delocalized Master's program in Geography, 脡cole Normale Sup茅rieur/Paris 8 (since 2018).
