Government loans

If you’re a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person living in Ontario, you may be able to apply for financial assistance through the Ontario Student Assistance Program. If you live in Quebec, you qualify for aid through provincial government programs. If you live outside Ontario and Quebec, check the financial aid programs of your province or territory of residence.

As a First Nations or Inuit student, you may be eligible for financial support for Indigenous Canadians. 

If you’re an American resident, you may be able to apply for student loans through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program.

If you're an international student, check with your government representatives to find out if there are any loans you can benefit from.

Our scholarship program is one of the most generous in Canada. It rewards not only pre-university academic achievements, but also achievements at every term of full-time study at university. Scholarships are awarded in recognition for academic success while bursaries are awarded based on financial need. To apply, use the Online Scholarships and Bursaries tool.

The University of Ottawa offers a wide range of scholarships and financial support programs for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. You can also apply for several external awards and financial support programs. If you intend to pursue your study at the graduate level, you should apply during the last year of your bachelor studies.

As an international student, you will be paying tuition fees equivalent to those paid by Canadian PhD candidates. You might consider applying for the Special Merit Scholarship. If you are enrolled in the second year of your PhD program and beyond, you can apply for the PhD Student International Research Scholarship to conduct research abroad for at least one term. If you're studying in French, you can apply for the Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship. In any case, tuition fees to be paid will be reduced by the application to the International Doctoral Scholarship. Other sources of funding for international Graduate students might be available. Faculty of Arts Scholarships

As a graduate student, you can apply for several research funding programs. If you are planning to present a paper directly related to your thesis research at a conference, you may be eligible for a travel grant for a conference. If you are conducting research outside of the National Capital Region, you can apply for a research travel grant.

The Work-Study Program

The Work-Study Program is a great way to combine work with university education. It gives you the opportunity to work part-time on campus during the academic year and full-time during the summer. Working on campus helps you minimize travel time between your work and class and benefit from a flexible schedule that allows you to prioritize your studies. It will also enhance skills that will be an asset for your career.

CO-OP

The CO-OP Program provides a great opportunity to grow professionally while gaining some valuable paid experience. It offers you a chance to apply concepts you learn in class through paid work terms. You will gain approximately 16 months of work experience in your field of study and build a network of valuable contacts.
