Research Chair in Science Diplomacy

The University of Ottawa and the Embassy of France in Canada initiated the Research Chair in Science Diplomacy to tackle unique science diplomacy challenges.

About the program

The Research Chair in Science Diplomacy (RCSD) is the result of a collaboration between the University of Ottawa and the Embassy of France in Canada, formalized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding that came into effect on April 24, 2023.

This program aims to strengthen scientific collaborations between France and Canada by addressing the challenges of science diplomacy (SD). SD reconciles scientific interests with those of foreign policy through three dimensions: diplomacy for science, science for diplomacy, and science in diplomacy.

The RCSD is intended for researchers from a variety of disciplines, including social sciences, science and technology, and medicine, who wish to critically examine the interactions between diplomacy and science.
